Cure for the Common Game

Building Every Commander Deck

My name is Brian Canada, and I am building a deck for every single commander.

First, let me tell you a little about me. I’m a husband, father, grandfather, and an EDH addict. I have been playing Magic nonstop for 24 years. Somewhere around the Ravnica: City of Guilds era, I read an article over on the Wizards of the Coast website about this crazy format that the judges were playing after events called Elder Dragon Highlander, and I was immediately hooked. I built decks and played the first Commander game in my town by lending a friend an extra deck I had built. I continued to build more and different decks, as I wanted to experience everything this great format had to offer. Around two years ago, I had some extra time, so I flipped on my camera and began to go over every card in each deck. I try to build in an unconventional manner, producing decks that tend to be outside of the norm. In doing all of this, I found my mission.

I am building a commander deck of every legal legendary creature, and most importantly, keeping that deck together and ready to play. The end goal is to have every possible deck at once. This is quite an undertaking, since Wizards is still printing legendary creatures! My YouTube channel is Cure for the Common Game, where I post these videos generally about every two days. In this fortnightly column, I’ll provide a link and a brief synopsis of each deck so that you can join along in my insane quest. Here are this edition’s decks. Enjoy!

Deck #331 – Aminatou, the Fateshifter

A focus more on blinking that on topdecking

Deck #332 – Sylvia & Khorvath

We find out what Knights and Dragons have in common.

Deck #333 – Mogis, God of Slaughter

Every Rakdos hate card that I could find.

Deck #334 – Gyrus, Waker of Corpses

Jund’em!

Deck #335 – Regna & Krav

Exploring the broken things you can do with life gain.

Deck #336 – Thantis, the Warweaver

We finally get to play red in tribal Spiders!

Deck #337 – Tishana, Voice of Thunder

Simic blink deck to draw all the cards.

Thank you all for reading/watching, and a big thanks to the crew here at EDHREC for helping get the word out about this absolutely wonderful format. I will see you in two weeks if I don’t see you in the comments.

Brian Canada is a husband, father, grandfather who is so addicted to EDH that he has taken on a mission to build a deck of every legendary creature ever made, and in his spare time he sells groceries.
